About the School of Theatre

Drama contributes in many different ways to a students learning and to their personal and social development. At all stages, drama offers opportunities to enter imaginatively into other worlds, and to explore relationships from the point of view of different people. At ICPA, students are challenged to develop effective communication skills, to listen, to observe, to interpret and analyze. The program begins with improvisation, body movement and theater games, and progresses to monologue,scene work, script analysis, and character development. The program strongly emphasizes process over product, creating a learning environment in which students are free to explore, to take risks and to work without fear of judgment. Its goal is to prepare each student for the experience of performing for an audience. Ultimately, ICPA will produce theatrical productions throughout the year.

• Drama Our drama program is designed to inspire the student who wishes to develop a love and appreciation of the theatre. Classes are structured to provide the student a basis in theatre skills, to offer a creative outlet, and to produce wellrounded performers. The class is primarily performance based with the belief that students learn best while doing, rather than by observing.• Acting Techniques Creative dramatics, improvisation, auditioning, public speaking, voice and movement, monologue and scene study, dialects, commercial work and camera technique are all taught in this course, as well as the beginnings of actor's preparation, inside out technique, creating the character, and advanced vocal and movement work.• Musical Theater Performanceoriented workshop experience that studies acting styles as applied to a song.• Improvisation This class is equally effective in giving a platform to those who want to polish their comedic skills to a student who simply needs to open up and have more confidence in their choices. Learning the rules and the different styles of improv can help sharpen creative instincts but also give the young actor a great deal of confidence.
